Lighting in film
Lightning can create a natural looking film scene, can help create different visual moods or meanings in the scene.
In a film set the chief lightning technician is usually responsible for directing the lightning work. They are responsible for:
- Interpreting the lightning designer plan.
- Operating manual and computer-controlled lighting systems during a show
- Reads the script and makes note of any special lighting needs for the production
A well-known Gaffer is:
Jeff Zucker, who usually works in reality shows, or talk shows. This type of films usually has high key lightning. Jeff Zucker has work in the shows "My name is Earl", "Fat actress", and more.
Elements of lightning
Direction- The direction where u place the source of light, which can affect the shape and depth of subject or character. By doing so, this can cause changes in the way the audience perceives the subject.
Quality- Quality of light is the type of shadows the source of lighting can create.
Source- The different sources of light that have a different purpose for scenes. Key light is used as the primary and most direct light. Fill light is the light placed opposite to key light that gets rides of shadow created by key light. Back light seprates subject from background and its directed from behind subject.
Color- This is determined on the temperature of the light, cool or warm colors. This can affect the mood of scene by creating emotion.
